Preparing for Notarization

Remember: If you’re ever unsure how to complete your document, please check with the person or agency that prepared it, or seek advice from a qualified legal professional.

By law, a notary cannot provide guidance on how to fill out or prepare your document.

  • Bring the completed document with no missing pages.
  • Leave all signature lines blank until appointment.
  • If witnesses are also required by the document itself, please arrange for them to be present.
  • Provide a valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, passport, etc.)
  • Confirm the name on your ID matches the name printed on the document. If the names do not match, ask your notary about using credible witnesses. (Ex: maiden name)
  • Payment is due at the time of notarization.
  • Mobile or courier services (if requested) may be added to your total.
  • Card payments are processed through Square, cash is also accepted.
  • The signer must be present, alert, and willing.
    • A notary cannot proceed if there are signs of coercion or confusion.
  • For documents involving multiple signers, everyone should be present together unless we’ve discussed and arranged otherwise.
